We want to recognise Maryam Masoomy, who leads our operations in #Afghanistan. Maryam’s strength is the kind that shows up every day, quietly and without fuss, in circumstances most people would find impossible. She carries enormous responsibility with dignity, and leads with intelligence, integrity, warmth, and calm professionalism.
She is deeply trusted by our team because she is honest, thoughtful, and exceptionally hardworking. She combines empathy with discipline in a way that is rare, and exactly what our work requires.
What makes her leadership even more remarkable is that it exists in an environment where simply doing your job as a woman can come with constant friction, scrutiny, and even humiliation. The barriers are daily, personal, and exhausting. And yet Maryam continues to show up, solve problems, lead, and keep moving forward.
She does this while also carrying profound personal burdens and supporting her family through hardship that would overwhelm most people. And yet she does not complain or seek attention.
There is a lot said globally about women’s resilience. In Maryam’s case, it means maintaining professionalism under extreme pressure, holding onto self-respect in systems designed to wear it down, and continuing to contribute and lead when the path is made unnecessarily hard.
We are very fortunate to have Maryam in our team. We are proud of her, and wanted to mark International Women’s Day by recognising her courage and character.
